Nonetheless, they also lead private lives away from the sound and fury of political battles and the prying eyes and ears of the media. For most of our leaders, family and friends represent an important source of solace and advice, but keeping their private and public worlds separate is sometimes impossible. In examining the private side of power, we are reminded not only of our leaders' humanity, but also of the reality that for them, and for those closest to them, family life and friendship are constantly in competition with the often thankless job of leading the country.
