MEETING AGENDA

  1. Welcome and Introductions – Mary Jackson

Self-introductions will be made. A volunteer will be "selected" to take the meeting notes and prepare the summary. Any volunteers? A volunteer will be selected if no one volunteers!

  2. Guidelines for ILL Application Developers – Barb Shuh

Work continues on the guidelines. What is missing? What needs to be added? What needs clarifications? We should begin discussing the process to "approve" the guidelines when they are complete.

Review of revision of Guidelines to cover at least the following:

    • Section 4: Documentation diagram and supporting text
    • Section 5: Roles diagram and a sketchy draft of supporting text
    • Section 6.2 Guarding Against Human Error.
    • Section 7.1.5: New text on the RETURN variable aka Value of the Shipped service type
    • Section 7.1.3: Integration of text from Clarifications
    • Section 9: Paul Mouland (NLC)'s comments on Supporting Services: TCP
    • Section 10: Sharing Developing Information
    • Annex A: Copyright info here now

  3. ILL Application Standards Maintenance Agency Update – Barbara Shuh
  4. a. New Object: 1.0.10161.7.3 BL-Collections

Before a decision is made on this object, we should discuss a related issue: Generalized ILL-Request Extension:

OCLC, BL, and RLG expressed similar, but different needs for additional information to be conveyed in the ILL Request. Can an extension be developed that would meet all needs?

    b. Clarifications review

    c. Defect Reports

    • Defect Report 08
    • Defect Report 09
    • Defect Report 10 Expiry timer
    • Error in Defect Report 05? (question raised in e-mail from Craig Wright)

    d. Plans for Review of Standards

  5. Interoperability Testing – Barbara Shuh
  6. PatronRequest/RequestSubmission Extension
  7. Several IPIG members have expressed an interest in an extension that would permit non-ILL applications to submit an ILL-Request to an ILL application. Is the OCLC extension generalizable to meet all needs?

  8. Multiple APDUs in a single mail message
  9. Is there agreement for the suggestion that all MIME messages contain only one APDU, and that something should be included in the guidelines?

  10. NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol – Pat Stevens
  11. Pat Stevens, chair of the NISO committee developing the NCIP, will provide an update on the status of the committee’s work, and in particular on the draft Principles document:

    http://www.niso.org/

  12. New Business/Discussion Topics/Issues
  13. This is your opportunity to raise items not on the agenda.

Missed item: Intermediary-related questions from Randy Menakes

  14. Next Meeting – Mary Jackson
  15. Three meetings are suggested for 2000, one of which will be held outside the United States. Ameritech has volunteered to host a meeting in the second half of the year. RLG and TLC have also expressed interest in hosting a meeting.

We will identify tentative dates and venues at this meeting. We will post our selection on the listserv to ensure that there are no major conflicts for those not present. Dates and locations will be finalized on the list.
