Mexican Campaign
1863-1867
July 21, 1863 - He left Paris to take up his first command on board the Adonis during the Mexican Campaign.

July 23, 1863 - January 13, 1864 - We know that during this long voyage he stopped off in Martinique (1864) and, the following year, in Mexico (Veracruz, May 1865).
January 13, 1866 - May 18, 1867 - As Chief Officer on the Magellan, he distinguished himself when the Amphion sank and was named Commander on March 9, 1867. He returned to France after forty-two months of campaigning at sea during which time he again landed in Veracruz in March 1867.
