May 1, 1851 - On board the Sibylle, Miot travelled to the West Indies Naval Station.
1853 - He was in command of the merchant ship Ceres, which he brought back to France from the West Indies. Two thirds of the crew died during the crossing because of a yellow fever epidemic.
May 9 - July 20, 1854 - He cruised the Baltic on board the Asmodée.

October 24, 1855 - March 30, 1856 - He participated in the Crimean Campaign on the Uranie and the Laplace. It was certainly during this time that he met Georges-Charles Cloué, the future Admiral and Minister of the Navy, who had been station hydrographer in Newfoundland before Miot between 1849 and 1853. Until his death in 1889, Cloué played a major role in Miot's career, and Miot was his faithful and valuable associate.
